Marathon Training

I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I am toying with the idea of running another marathon in 2014.  My 1st and last marathon was in 2004 so this would be a great 10 year anniversary type of situation.

My 1st marathon was also my very 1st race.  I ran it with Team in Training and I was a newbie runner with no race experience.  I know that with 10 years of running experience I can run a much smarter race and I am curious and excited to see what it would be like again:)

Rottenecards_1754349_xg56v8bt2fHere is the dilemma.  The race I want to run is called the “Light at the End of the Tunnel Marathon”.  It is 26.2 miles of gentle decline and that sounds like heaven to me:)  The problem is that it is in July and they don’t open registration until March (as far as I know).  There isn’t even anything on the website about the 2014 race yet.  Plus, last year the race sold out in only 7 hours!

I want to start training in January, so I think I might need a backup plan.  Another marathon in the back of my head just in case this one either doesn’t happen, or I don’t get in.

The only real conflict I have is the North Olympic Discovery Half the 1st weekend in June.  Other than that I am pretty open for a late June or July race.

So, in case the “Goal Race” doesn’t pan out, I need options.  Any thoughts?  What is your favorite race in June or July?  Something on the West Coast preferably, so I don’t have to deal with jet lag;)  Anyone want to join me in my 10 year anniversary marathon?!

In other news, I am still sore from these workouts.  I did the “She Rocks” one on Tuesday and followed that up with my Jump rope workout on Wednesday, plus a 3 miler on the treadmill!  My legs are completely spent!

Have a great day and happy running!
